Vendor Biography

Keri and Josie began SSI Freeze Dry in 2024 because their life just wasn’t quite full enough with two babies, a bustling farm, and a garden which, despite the very best of intentions, gets over-run with weeds every year. We bought a freeze dryer with the vision of reducing food waste on Salt Spring Island by being able to preserve our gorgeous produce for up to 25 years when stored correctly! So you can enjoy your favourite local ingredients year round. We are so incredibly grateful to live with our parents on Byron Farm on the south end of Salt Spring Island with its generous bounty that we get to share with all of you.

 

Freeze drying is a food preservation method that first freezes the items, and then removes all moisture from it. This maintains more of the nutritional content, taste and colour of the original product when compared to traditional food preservation methods. It can be eaten as a tasty crunchy snack, or rehydrated to its original form by soaking in water.
