Living lettuce grown right here on Saltspring Island! This lettuce is grown hydroponically in the Fulford Valley by the Harvey Family, who have spent the last fifteen years growing in South Africa. After surviving some of the coldest sustained temperatures here on Saltspring – they have proven it can be done! This is a another tasty step further in creating year-round food security on Saltspring. Get ready to have fresh, nutrient rich, living lettuce in our backyard!

Cold Smoked Sablefish Fillets
Smoked Sablefish, Haida Gwaii
Known also as butterfish, this delectable fish offers a rich and buttery flavor that melts in your mouth. With its high oil content lending to a thick flaky texture, Sable Fish is a true delight for seafood lovers. This is the cold-smoked version – an absolute treat! Warm slightly and serve with charcuterie accompaniments. We like whipped cream cheese, picked red onions and chopped chives.
Sablefish is an excellent source of protein and the highest fish in heart-healthy Omega 3’s above Salmon or Tuna.
Mostly headed abroad to fine-dining restaurants (it’s a favorite as sushi in Japan and can be found on the Nobu menu) – it’s a real treat to have the Pacific Prowler bring some of these beauties back to Saltspring.

From The Prowler: All our fish are caught off the west coast of Haida Gwaii (Area F). We believe bringing these fish home for our surrounding communities, with 100% traceability, is an important part in keeping our food chain wild and local. All fish are brought in by hand one by one and promptly dressed, head off and guts removed, washed down and put in our flash freezer with temperatures to -35 to ensure the fish remains the highest of quality.

Dairy Pour Spout
These reusable pour spouts fit on any of the Cowichan Milk bottles. They stay on securely and control the stream of milk or cream for easier pouring.
They do fit very tightly, so they require a strong hand to pull them off again. We recommend warming the plastic spout with hot tap water to allow it to go on and release more easily, and to prevent cracking.

Island Bees Honey
Island Bees Honey, Saltspring Island
Island Bees honey is raw, unfiltered and collected entirely from flowers on Salt Spring Island. You may find it is not as clear as regular store-bought honey and it may have occasional specks of hive materials that you would not see in honey that is more refined and processed. All the enzymes, propolis, and pollen grains are retained, so Island Bees honey is in the same state as you would find naturally in the beehive.
Most honey produced in Canada comes from huge fields of flowering monoculture like clover,
canola, blueberries and alfalfa. In contrast, much of Salt Spring Island is forested and therefore, the number of flowers available to bees is much less, so Salt Spring bees collect honey from wildflowers and blooming trees instead.This means that Salt Spring Island bees don’t make much surplus honey, but it also means that their honey and pollen is not as exposed to all of the harmful things that come along with modern intensive farming.

From The Prowler: All our Salmon are caught off the west coast of Haida Gwaii (Area F) just as they return from the deep ocean. Caught at the peak of their lifecycle, they are extremely healthy. Rich in flavour, full of Omega oils, essential fats, and high in protein, you can’t begin to compare these beautiful fish to farmed fish or fish traveled down the coast that have begun to degrade as they enter the rivers to spawn. Because of the high quality of these west coast northern fish, they are usually sold to international fish markets and fine dinning restaurants around the world. We believe bringing these fish home for our surrounding communities, with 100% traceability, is an important part in keeping our food chain wild and local.
